What "Dead Wooding" actually means.
Dead wood in a mature tree is a normal part of its life, but in a garden setting it's also the most common cause of falling-limb damage. We climb the tree and remove the dead material cleanly, leaving a tidier crown that's safer to sit under and less likely to drop into the lawn after the next gust.
What's involved on the day
- Full climbing inspection of the canopy
- Removal of all dead wood above a safe-to-leave threshold (usually 25 mm)
- Cuts at the branch collar so callus can form cleanly
- Ground-level inspection of larger dead material before disposal
When you might need it
- You've noticed twiggy debris falling onto the lawn after wind
- Visible dead limbs sticking out of an otherwise healthy canopy
- Tree overhangs a path, drive or play area and safety matters
- Pre-sale property tidy on a garden with mature specimens
